Meeting Minutes for June, 2004
The following people attended the meeting:
Peter Finnorn, Mike Sanford, Joe Greer, Sherelyn Breland, Leonard Hart, John McGraw, Christine Benson, Mike Kelly, Brian Bradley, Martha Rester, Petra Cain
Official business discussed at this meeting was to possibly change the meeting dates to every other month. Further discussion on this issue will be discussed at the next meeting. The meeting started at 6:00 PM. The topic of our discussion was an intro into Network security. This was an open discussion meeting. Brian Bradley with Vilden Assoc. gave us some interesting inside to some of the security problems that effect us all. We talked about the increasing threat and where it comes from such as the internet, wirless connections or even internal security problems. We discussed some of the major AS/400 problem areas such as FTP, file transfer, ODBC and DDM. We learned that if you are running FTP anyone with access to your machine can delete, change or create a new file or library on your system. We also discussed some solutions to these problems such as shutting down services you do not need, creating exit programs or buying a third party security software product for access control, intrusion monitoring, intrusion prevention and vulnerability assessment, Powertech or Initech. are just a couple of the companies that offer such software that we discussed.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:00 PM.
