Meeting Minutes for November, 2004
The following people attended the meeting: Mary Cunningham, Ed Langus, Bob Sutherland, John McGraw, Peter Finnorn, Leonard Hart, Brian Bradley, Petra Cain The meeting started at 6:00 PM. Leonard as always made sure we had some good food to eat during our meeting from Saucy-Q Bar B Que, of course he also brought along some good dessert. Brian Bradley from Vilden Associates once again impressed us with a great presentation on “Spyware”. According to a survey done by Watchguard Technologies the greatest security threat to IT departments is 67% Spyware, 23% Viruses and 10% Phising, obviously something that effects us all. He also showed us a way to confirm an infection by checking which process are running, and how to look at the system registry and where the most likely places are that they will hide. Also I'm sure many of you are familiar with the msconfig command that used to be available in the older windows versions that lets you check your system.ini, win.ini, boot.ini, services & start up options it is back in Win XP, thanks MS. He also told us about ALT F4 to close the current active window when you get pop ups, rather than clicking ok which might just take you to a website you don t want to visit. As always Brian's full presentation can be viewed on our website www.gcmug.org Also we want to express our congratulations to Peter Finnorn on his new position as the new IBM e-Server Manager for the Alabama region and LaWanda Young on her new territory as the Senior AS/400 and iSeries Sales Specialist for Mississippi and West Tennessee. The meeting was adjourned at 7:45 PM. Our next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday March 15, 2005, at 6:00 PM. Location and topic will be e-mailed to you at a later date.
